The equipment:

I would like to begin by thanking all of my family and new found friends at CPC for liking all the FB links I have posted. Knowing you all may have read this is what got me out of bed this morning.

While some of you are just scanning through this, I think it fair for full disclosure to give you all a represented bio of me:

I'm a 31 year old father of 4 (yes, 4 children).
I'm a partner of a small market research facility in Warwick RI as well as a server at a local restaurant 4 nights a week.

Knowing those 2 items should tell you about my free time.

Growing up, I was the first kid out the door, often getting to school to play soccer at 6 am, soccer practice after school, work, then outside playing some sport (street hockey, football, and some stupid idea of a game called "jockball" which was a combination of dodgeball, lacross, and tackle everyone) until my parents threatened my life, then to bed to do it again the next day.

In college, I played as many intermurals as possible but saw a slowdown in my activities. This was mainly because of a shift in responsibilities as we found out my mother was terminal with Breast Cancer.

From there, I have slowly relinquished my physical activites and given way to my kids Karate, dance classes and sports. I currently stand at 6 feet tall and 242 pounds in a frame that should only hold 200 of those pounds.

This is who I was when I ran around everywhere. I'm in stripes.

This is now...

As you can clearly see, much has changed in a decade. Enter CPC and the challenge.

Oh, yeah, I grew up with Sully. We've been friends since 4th grade and yes, he has ALWAYS been that crazy... Now back to the challenge and my workout summary.

As is the problem with all of my past exercise routines, I found a number of issues with my mental status on this run. I left the house this morning thinking that I could get through this in my sleep and hit a 8 minute pace, all without breaking a sweat.

I started my run without incidence and hit my first half mile just before the first song on my Pandora radio finished. I thought to myself " man this was the fastest mile I've run in a while!" to which I was abruptly corrected by my run keeper, when it stated "5 minutes complete .54 miles down. 9:38 minute pace. You're not done yet, don't slow down."

I never knew there were apps like this and am thankful that there are, because I almost turned around and quit when I hear 1/2 mile, but something about keep going pushed me on. I finished the jog with several stops along the way to walk out the cramps, though never really breathing so heavy I wanted to stop. Here is my time:

Here is also what I have learned in 2 miles today:

1. My lungs remember what 2 miles feels like. My legs do not.
2. Never trust that 2.0 miles on the odometer equals 2.0 on foot.
3. Even 1 beer the night before a run can deaden my enthusiasm.
4. I need a new pair of sneakers to wear AFTER my runs

60 days is going to be a true challenge for me, but I look forward to the email each morning and will push onward and upward!
