CM,
The idea here is to have you crush a 5k distance by executing repeat 880's or 1/2 mile runs. I want you to walk away from the house for .1 miles, this is where we'll start. You are going to run 1/2 mile distance, aggressive pace, then stop for 2:20 seconds. Repeat another 1/2 mile and then rest same length of time each time trying to push harder and faster. When you've got 3 repeats under your belt turn around and make you way back to the house. On the final repeat add the ".1" onto the run and finish at the house. It's not going to be a "comfortable morning run" but it's going to show you how fast you can really move and build some confidence on your feet.
The Equipment:
So its now Sunday 7:00 pm and I'm just getting to writing about a run I did yesterday at 11:00am. It started with a freakish Friday at the office, bombarded with bids, closes and projects up the wazoo signifying the start of political season for us.
(Again, not me. I'm a brunette)
Its a time of pure turmoil and I am so glad its here. For me, it is the time when you get to be the hero or the goat. Much like a shootout in hockey or soccer, a last minute field goal in football or sudden death in wrestling, these next three months define your company in the political arena. It was a day that later welcomed the opportunity to run and release some stress. Saturday morning was riddled with kids and chores and I didn't get out to run until 11:00, well past the early morning I have grown accustomed to. It was also after the heat and humidity set in for the day. During the run, I spent most of my time revisiting all the things that occurred in the past 24 hours and their respective resolutions and finished the first .5 in 4:24, 40 seconds than all my averages prior to this date. The subsequent legs went just as smooth, finishing the first 2 miles with the following splits:
4:24, 4:26, 4:32, 4:35
The heat and humidity set in and left me quite fatigued for the final 1.1 miles finishing my final 2 splits with a 4:50 and 5:24 time respectively. This left me with a 5K time of: 28:11, almost 4 minutes faster than the last 5K I've run.
Right after the run, it was off to take the kids to my father's and then dressed and ready for a night out with the wifey, attending the wedding of her cousin. Being the only wedding of the year, I partied like I was 21...and recovered like I was 65, which brings us to now.
Most CPC'ers know about the initiative the team at CPC there is pushing for. The mentality of "get up, get out and live life" resonates through the building and beyond. It is catchy. It is easy. And it has sold me, having now carried logs, bricks and water jugs throughout my exercises and blogging to you all about it. And Its the hope that many others follow suit and get back to the root of our playful nature in nature (I'm copywriting that if its not yet used!). The message is spreading like wild fire too, most recently with Geoff and team on Mass Appeal, A local TV station in East Longmeadow, MA. Their instruction is simple and their methods strange, the clips I saw were great for promoting an easy, inexpensive lifestyle.
For those outside of the CPC spectrum, take a look here to see them in action:

Though tomorrow is a holiday, I expect a good sweat in the morning. I'll leave tonight with the following clip of Ray Lewis, one of my favorite motivational speakers:
How will you live your legacy?
BOOM!
